This isn't a part of our annual "Best Of..." series, but we sure did have some fun with GIFs this year. So we're taking this opportunity to share the 13 best:
1. Daniel Woolard sums it up for D.C. United
They did win a trophy this year, but for anyone who saw them play in 2013, this is the lasting memory of the worst regular-season MLS team of all time.
2. Gonzalo Segares and the art of 1-v-1 defense
Sniper got him.
3. Deuce does Deuce things
Would have been better if it hadn't led to an easily defended cross, but the man is an entertainer.
4. The New-Look Timbers
High press, class finish.
5. Having some fun on the sideline
It's fair to say that the Timbers took on the personality of their coach.
Also, that was only the second-best Bruce Arena face of 2013...
6. BruceFace
To be fair, it came right after a spectacularly bad first touch.
7. Here's LA's only highlight of the playoffs
And, as it so happens, one of Sean Franklin's last acts in a Galaxy kit.
8. Of course, Kelyn Rowe might have bent it even better
More to come from him? Rowe made a huge leap in his sophomore year, but he'll have to make another if he wants to get his foot in the door for the USMNT, and lead the Revs deeper into the playoffs.
9. Time to dance in Houston
The Dynamo destroyed Montreal on Halloween, and this guy knew the only way to celebrate.
10. Leaving Besler hanging
There would be no dancing from Houston fans in KC later in the playoffs. And there would be no dap for Matt Besler, the one misstep in a year that saw him secure a starting role with the USMNT and secure an MLS Cup for his hometown team.
Shame on you, Tech N9ne.
11. Besler's backline buddies reprised a late-'90s SNL skit
That's three of the four presumptive USMNT defensive starters in the last two GIFs. This probably means something.
12. Titi's ready for Brazil
Truly the best way to show your displeasure with an opponent's unique defensive tactics. Also, a new dance craze in Rio.
13. Marvin's having a laugh
Really though, it's no contest for GIF of the year. The ankle-breaker is great, of course, and it's made even better by A.J. DeLaGarza biting so hard he falls out of the frame.
But it's that smile that does it. Marvin Chavez owned that moment more than anybody else owned anything else in 2013.
GIF of the year. The Quakes may not have defended their 2012 Supporters' Shield, but at least they won something.
