GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Jonathan Bornstein has joined Liga MX outfit Atlante on loan from Tigres, the Monterrey-based club confirmed on Wednesday.
Bornstein will head to Cancun along with Tigres teammates Manuel Viniegra and Alonso Zamora as Los Potros fight to stave off relegation to the second division in the Clausura 2014 tournament
The American left back featured for Tigres in just three first team games in 2013, with coach Ricardo Ferretti not giving Bornstein a real run of games since he moved from Chivas USA in late 2010. There were even reports the 29-year-old had been separated from preseason training at Tigres.
The Yucatán peninsula may be an exotic location to ply his trade, but Bornstein’s new club is in a tough situation, eight points behind Atlas and 12 behind Puebla at the foot of the Liga MX relegation table, with one team set to be relegated in May.
There were no other American movers as the domestic transfer window closed Wednesday evening, with DaMarcus Beasley’s deal to Querétaro collapsing and Herculez Gomez staying at Club Tijuana despite reported interest from Atlas.
