Rumor Central: Seattle Sounders star Clint Dempsey set for two-month Fulham loan?

Clint Dempsey celebrates his first goal for Seattle

Could Seattle Sounders star Clint Dempsey be getting set for a return to former club Fulham?

With a variety of EPL teams surfacing as potential loan destinations for the US national team captain during the current MLS offseason, Fulham may emerge as the winner of the Dempsey sweepstakes according to a report from England.

ZapSportz.com – the site's slogan is "sportz newz with attitude" and is co-founded by former English manager Glenn Hoddle – cites a West Ham insider as saying: "[Dempsey] will return to play for Fulham for the two months or so during the close season in MLS. We tried to get him on loan but he chose to go back to his old club instead."

The English papers are also continuing to push the "Dempsey to Fulham" angle.

As for the Sounders, no word yet from the Seattle club when contacted by MLSsoccer.com about the ZapSportz.com report.

Dempsey made his name at Fulham and last played for the Cottagers in the 2011-12 English Premier League season, when he was voted "player of the season" by the fans (VIDEO). During the ensuing offseason he was transferred to another London club, Tottenham Hotspur, before moving back to MLS a year later in August 2013.

Speaking to reporters in Kansas City, Kan., after the recent World Cup Draw on Dec. 6, Dempsey refrained from commenting about potential loan options, but he did indicate that news was forthcoming.
