American Exports: Bayern Munich phenom Julian Green makes first-team debut in Champions League

Bayern Munich reserve and US national team prospect Julian Green

AMSTERDAM – Tampa-born Bayern Munich prospect Julian Green made his debut for the senior side on Wednesday night, working the final moments of their 3-1 Champions League group stage victory at CSKA Moscow.

The 18-year-old entered the game two minutes from time wearing No. 37. Even with the three added minutes of stoppage time, Green managed but one unsuccessful touch of the ball.

With Champions League holders Bayern already qualified for this edition's knockouts and nearly assured of winning Group D, it stands to reason Green could also be in uniform when Manchester City come to Bavaria for Matchday 6 on Dec. 10.

The attack phenom has been lighting it up in the reserves this year, notching 15 goals and six assists in 18 Regionalliga Bayern matches. Green is currently a member of the Germany Under-19 national team, having first played in European qualifiers back in October. However, he also has one US youth international cap and kindly rejected a training-only November call-up to Jurgen Klinsmann's national team camp.
