American Exports: Jermaine Jones, Schalke held to draw in Champions League, now face must-win

Jermaine Jones with Schalke

AMSTERDAM – Jermaine Jones and Schalke will head into the final matchday of the UEFA Champions League with work to do after settling for a 0-0 draw at Steaua Bucharest on Tuesday.

The US midfielder went the distance, picking up a 75th-minute yellow card that will see him miss the Miners' final Group E match at home against Basel. Jones also fired three shots during the contest, though none of them were on target.

Although the result dipped Schalke to third place in the group, they can qualify for the knockout stages by beating the Swiss champs on Dec. 11. Any failure to do so would see Jones & Co. shifted to the Europa League's Round of 32.
