Sporting KC-Houston Dynamo was the coldest MLS match ever

Sporting fans celebrate a goal at Sporting Park

This is why soccer supporters wear scarves: Because sometimes it's cold as hell at the stadium.

Or cold as Blue Hell on Saturday night at Sporting Park, where Sporting KC and the Houston Dynamo faced off in the second leg of the Eastern Conference Championship. Weather.com said the temperature in Kansas City dropped into the teens during the match. Two hours before kick off, the thermometer was already down to 22 degrees.

According to Major League Soccer, it was the coldest MLS match since 2003, when the league first started recording gametime temperatures. The coldest match until Saturday night was March 26, 2011, when  Toronto FC and Portland Timbers played at BMO Field with the mercury reading 26 degrees.
