Merritt Paulson hinted that Portland and Major League Soccer were aiming high for next summer's All-Star Game opponent.
And if reports are to be believed, they've hit their mark.
On Friday, the Munich Evening News reported that German and European champions Bayern Munich will visit the Rose City next year for the league's midsummer classic following the conclusion of the World Cup. A date for the match has not yet been set.
However, there was no such level of certainty across the pond. In a statement released to MLSsoccer.com, MLS insisted an opponent has not yet been confirmed for the event.
"We are in discussions with multiple clubs from top leagues throughout the world to play against the MLS All-Stars in Portland next summer," the statement reads. "Major League Soccer would be thrilled to have a club like Bayern Munich compete in our All-Star Game, but we have not finalized an opponent at this time."
Every year since 2005, the MLS All-Stars have faced off against a European club team in the marquee event. They fell 3-1 to AS Roma last July at Sporting Park in Kansas City.
