Columbus Crew say they're in talks with Costa Rican left back Waylon Francis, but won't confirm signing

Columbus Crew officials did not confirm a report published Wednesday by TheColumbus Dispatch that the team had signed Costa Rican defender Waylon Francis from CS Herediano, but that doesn't mean the team isn't interested.

A team official told MLSsoccer.com that the team has been in talks with Francis, and that the two sides had consistent contact throughout 2013, but that the club was not ready to announce a signing, and that an announcement would come when they were.

MLSsoccer.com reported in October that the club confirmed interest in the Costa Rican, but that a done deal reported by Costa Rican outlet Al Día was “completely premature.”

Francis featured at left back for Herediano in the CONCACAF Champions League and garnered interest throughout MLS with the exposure.

It's a position that has given the Crew trouble for years, and the rotating door of left backs in 2013 included Tyson Wahl, Agustín Viana, Josh Williams and Chad Barson.
