Crossbar challenge: Brian Dunseth takes on Alexi Lalas as the two discuss MLS's early days | SIDELINE

Brian Dunseth and Alexi Lalas crossbar challenge

When not providing color commentary for various Major League Soccer, Europa League, CONCACAF Champions League or Pac-12 soccer television broadcasts, continental traveler extraordinaire Brian Dunseth finds plenty of time to take on current Real Salt Lake players in everyone's favorite post-practice, playground game — the crossbar challenge.

There's an entire series of them that you can find on his Original Winger blog. (Spoiler: Dunny does pretty well against the RSL guys.)

Dunseth recently got his sternest test this year, though, when US national team legend Alexi Lalas, in town for RSL's Western Conference semifinal second leg and Conference Championship first leg, laced up his boots and pushed the host all the way to the very last kick of the game.

The two players-turned-broadcasters also engage in a compelling conversation about Lalas' days as a player for the USMNT at the 1994 World Cup, Italian club Padova and his eventual return to the US for the birth of MLS.

Lalas describes those early days as a professional soccer player in America as being in "the wild west," just like this crossbar challenge shootout.
