AMSTERDAM – Having already declined a US national team training stint for mid-November, Bayern Munich II sensation Julian Green has now accepted a call-up to the Germany Under-19 squad for friendlies against France over the same international break.
The teen attacker will be in French Basque country with Markus Song's junior Mannschaft for a week, with games falling on November 13 and 16.
"He has started the qualification matches with the German U-19 team and wants to support this team in the upcoming matches, as well," Green rep Katharina Schrott told MLSsoccer.com. "These matches are a great opportunity for him as a young player to gain further international experience without being determinate too early."
Previously capped by the Germans in U-19 European Championship qualifying, the Tampa native was summoned by Jurgen Klinsmann to train with the US senior side while they prepped for friendlies in Scotland and Austria. Earlier this week, the boss released a statement of support mixed with continued interest after Green turned down the invite. He would have to file a one-time switch to appear in a match for the US.
The 18-year-old, who currently leads the Regionalliga Bayern in scoring with 15 goals in as many games, made his competitive debut for Germany's U-19 team on October 12. He notched an assist as a halftime sub in their Euro2014 qualifying win against Latvia, and then matched that performance with another helper in 32 minutes against Scotland.
Green has also played one friendly for the US setup, scoring for the U-18s in a 4-2 win against the Netherlands back in September of last year.
