Before the craziness that was the final weekend of the 2013 MLS regular season began, Friday night saw the season finale of MLS Insider grace the airwaves of NBCSN and TSN.
This episode featured a pair of clubs whose struggles and travails have spanned the entirety of their existence — until all that ended on Sunday for one of them.
Toronto FC: seven years in Major League Soccer, and their best regular season finish to date? A mediocre-by-definition 11th in 2010. Zero playoff appearances, and eight different head coaches. Insider delves into the struggles of TFC and attempts to unearth the latest plan to rebuild under new MLSE president Tim Leiweke.
Up until 7 pm ET on Sunday, the New York Red Bulls had gone more than twice as long as TFC without winning a major trophy – 17 years – the entire length of the club's existence. It was called the "Curse of Caricola," and it dated back to MLS' inaugural season of 1996. It is no more, though, after the Red Bulls claimed the Supporters' Shield on Sunday.
As always, the entire series of MLS Insider is available right here on MLSsoccer.com.
