In July, the Chicago Fire were the latest team to hand the design process for their third kit over to the fans, and we must say the results are looking pretty slick.
On Tuesday evening, the Fire revealed the winner of their #cf97ThirdKit design contest, as voted on by fans. Chicago architect Freddy Christiano claimed the honors with his municipal-themed "Heart on your Sleeve" design, a simple design that draws heavily upon the the white/sky blue stripes and red stars of the Chicago city flag.
“Congratulations to Freddy and his unique take on incorporating the city into his design,” said Chicago Fire Chief Operation Officer Atul Khosla. “Our goal throughout this process was to collaborate with our supporters and I want to thank all who participated – the number of designs, votes and overall response far exceeded our expectations.”
Don't expect to see the new jersey any time this season, though. The kit will be unveiled at the team's Anniversary game in the 2014 season. In the meantime, though, see how it stacks up to the LA Galaxy's fan-created third kit, or other third kits evocative of their team's history and locale, such as the Philadelphia Union and Colorado Rapids.
