AMSTERDAM – Reading midfielder Danny Williams is close to returning from a foot injury, but the club is still unsure if he'll be fit in time for Saturday's league trip to Burnley.
The US international has missed three Championship games since taking a kick to his foot during their September 18 win over Leeds United, which saw him set up the lone goal winner deep into stoppage time.
On Thursday, manager Nigel Adkins stated that Williams' availability for Saturday was still questionable.
"[He] said yesterday he's unsure whether Danny will play this weekend," Royals press officer Craig Mortimer-Zhika told MLSsoccer.com. "But said he should hopefully be back after the international break, if not."
Following the break, during which Williams' US teammates will handle the final two CONCACAF Hexagonal matches without him, Reading plays host to Doncaster on October 19. The promotion chasers stand fifth through 10 matches, just four points off the top.
Williams has not featured for the US team since their ill-fated opening World Cup qualifier in February in Honduras, when he started in the midfield and was replaced after 58 minutes by Maurice Edu.
