Jose Torres with Tigres UANL

It may have taken him some time to do it, but US national team midfielder Jose Francisco Torres got off the mark Tuesday night for Tigres UANL in the way most players dream of doing when they join a new club: by scoring a laser into the top corner from the corner of the penalty area.

The goal was Torres' first for Tigres after failing to find the net in his first 25 games following his move to the Monterrey-based club at the end of 2012.

Tigres lost the Copa MX game to Santos Laguna, 3-2, but sit two points ahead of Santos atop their group with no games left to play. Only a resounding final game victory by Cruz Azul Hidalgo over Zacatepec could prevent Tigres from advancing to the quarterfinal round.
