MLS Power Rankings, Week 30: How high did the New York Red Bulls climb?

Power Rankings New York Red Bulls

San Jose and Vancouver have been awful road teams this year. RSL and Montreal are consistently very good home teams. MLS is hard to figure.

Note: Only MLS league games will be reflected in the rankings. The Power Rankings are voted on by the editorial staff at MLSsoccer.com, and all comments are written by Matthew Doyle. All game times are Eastern.

Not gonna lie: We wanted more from the Sounders in possession and attack. But no matter how it's broken down on film, a 1-1 draw in LA is a very, very good result.

Last Week:Drew at LA, 1-1

Last Five: W-W-W-W-D

This Week: Sunday vs. New York (9 pm ET, ESPN)

A win in Toronto isn't as easy as it sounds – since June, the only team to have managed it is the Sounders. Getting it done with a second-choice front three was admirable.

Last Week: Won at Toronto, 2-1

Last Five: L-L-W-W-W

This Week: Friday vs. Philadelphia (8 pm ET, NBCSN)

You need a couple of ugly wins here and there to climb to the top of the standings. The Power Rankings Politburo would like to point out that New York have never been alone in the Supporters' Shield lead this late in any season.

Last Week: Won vs. FC Dallas, 1-0

Last Five: L-W-W-W-W

This Week: Sunday vs. Seattle (9 pm, ESPN)

Not a vintage display by any means, but unbeaten in three is good enough to start moving them back up the rankings.
Clearly it's not a vintage LA team, and the inability of the kids to develop into legit pros is the reason why.
The Revs had caught a couple of bad breaks heading into last weekend. Then they cought a couple of good ones.
We don't love the four d-mid lineup. We don't even like it.
It's not just that they've won three of four, it's that they've discovered an identity while doing it.
They've got close a few times, been above the red line once. But one win in five, and a total pounding against a rival is unconvincing.
Maybe didn't deserve to lose that one, but they didn't deserve to win, either. And they've now picked up just two wins in their last 16 outings.
And somehow, given all that, TFC aren't the worst team in the league. D.C. are on pace to break the MLS record for fewest wins, fewest goals and lowest points per game.
