American Exports: Edgar Castillo injured as Club Tijuana give up late equalizer at Chivas Guadalajara

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Three Americans featured for Club Tijuana in their 2-2 tie with CD Guadalajara on Sunday at Estadio Omnilife.


Edgar Castillo was the only starter and was solid in his usual left back spot, getting the better of Chivas winger Jesús Sánchez, but the New Mexico native (above) was forced off in the 79th minute with what looked like an injury.


Greg Garza came on as a like-for-like replacement, with Paul Arriola entering the field two minutes later, although neither had enough time to make a significant impact on the game. Joe Corona, who was left on the bench for the fourth consecutive league game.



In Puebla earlier Sunday, DaMarcus Beasley and Michael Orozco Fiscal both started for La Franja in their 1-1 tie with Toluca. Puebla looked like taking all three points until Toluca ‘keeper Alfredo Talavera stepped up in the 90th minute and smashed in from the penalty spot to equalize. 


Beasley patrolled the left flank, contributing on both ends of the field until he was taken off in the 64th. The US national teamer’s best chance came in in the 26th when he hit a right-foot shot from inside the area, but it was comfortably saved by Talavera.


Orozco Fiscal was tidy in possession from his right back position and won the free kick on the edge of the area from which Puebla took the lead.


On Saturday, Jose Torres went the full 90 minutes as Tigres UANL held on to win 1-0 over Cruz Azul after going down to 10 men in the 53rd when Carlos Salcido was sent off. Torres set up a chance for Danilinho in the 30th and also had an opportunity himself in the 26th, but his left-foot shot from inside the area sailed over the crossbar.



In Mexico’s second division, Jesus Padilla’s Dorados defeated Marco Vidal’s Lobos BUAP 2-0 on Friday, with Vidal going 90 minutes and Padilla being substituted out at halftime.


On Saturday, Sonny Guadarrama went 64 minutes as Necaxa slipped to a 2-1 loss at Celaya.


In Brazil, Freddy Adu was once again left out of the Bahia squad as they drew 2-2 on Sunday against Coritiba.
