Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd., the ownership group for Toronto FC, announced on Friday that chief operating officer Tom Anselmi has resigned after 17 years with the company.
Anselmi first joined the organization in December 1996, and was appointed COO in 2004.
“I am from this community, and I’m a huge fan of our teams, so being part of the growth of this organization into one that is admired in the industry has been a real privilege,” Anselmi said in a statement. “I’m very proud of our people and all that we’ve been able to accomplish. I’m also excited about the next chapter of my career and wish the organization and our fans all the best for the coming season.”
Anselmi’s last day at Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment will be Sept.13.
“The entire organization, including our ownership group, is grateful to Tom for his many contributions to the success of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment over the years,” said Tim Leiweke, president and CEO of MLSE.
Anselmi’s resignation is the second major move in the past 24 hours for the MLSE front office and its professional sports franchises. TFC parted ways with president and general manager Kevin Payne on Thursday.
