It's the goal celebration that has everyone talking in MLS this weekend.
After scoring the lone goal of the match against the Columbus Crew on Saturday night, Seattle Sounders forward Eddie Johnson can be seen rubbing his fingers on both hands while mouthing the words "pay me" a few times, all while looking up at the suites at Columbus Crew Stadium.
The Seattle Sounders have a league maximum three designated players -- Obafemi Martins, Mauro Rosales and the recently signed Clint Dempsey. The latter's signing this summer on a highly publicized multi-million dollar transfer fee from Tottenham Hotspur prompted the following tweet from Martins on August 4:
A few days later, the 29-year-old Johnson brought up the importance of compensation to him at this stage in his career during an interview in Bosnia-Herzegovina, where he scored during a 4-3 USMNT victory.
"I want to give myself every opportunity to make as much money as I can to help provide for my kids," he said. "And whatever situation comes up, I'm open to look at it. But I keep reiterating, I'm happy in Seattle. They gave me a second chance to resurrect my career and things are going well."
Johnson led Seattle with a club-record 14 goals last year after signing on with the Sounders in February 2012 following a return stateside from a stint in European soccer.
This year he leads the team with seven goals in 16 matches (tied with Martins), production that continues to earn him call-ups to the US national team, including to two September qualifiers vs. Costa Rica and Mexico.
After his celebration on Saturday night in Columbus, Johnson took to Twitter to remind everyone of his stats for the Sounders.
