American Exports: Edgar Castillo & Paul Arriola feature in Xolos draw

Edgar Castillo in action for Club Tijuana

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Club Tijuana drew 1-1 against Santos Laguna on Friday, with US international Edgar Castillo playing the full 90 minutes at left back in the Liga MX.

Castillo – playing against the club at which he first came to the fore – was heavily involved down the left flank in a tight affair, with Los Guerreros equalizing late in the 89th minute through Jesús Escoboza.

The New Mexico native came close to scoring in the 82nd when he drove forward from midfield and struck a swerving left foot effort just wide of the post.

Paul Arriola came on at halftime on the right wing – with the score at 0-0 - and almost made an immediate impact, bringing the ball down and hitting a volley from inside the penalty box, which ‘keeper Oswaldo Sánchez tipped over the bar.

The 18-year-old had another half-chance in the 62nd when his shot deflected off a defender and into the arms of Sánchez.

Joe Corona and Greg Garza were left on the bench as Xolos moved to eight points from their first six games of the Apertura championship.
