Carlos Valerrama's blond afro is without question one of the most iconic looks the soccer and sporting worlds have ever seen. And in the name of breast cancer awareness, "El Pibe" is dying it pink next month.
When your hair is famous enough that dying it a different color garners stories written about you and your mane, that's a clear sign your doing something right up top.
Valderrama, who captained the Colombian national team and played eight seasons in Major League Soccer from 1996 to 2002, will take part in a breast cancer awareness walk on September 8 during which people will see the blond-gone-pink curls for the first time.
"I'm going to paint it pink for the walk," Valderrama told Bogota media, according to Diez, and went on to ask authorities to double their efforts to prevent breast cancer. He stressed that breast cancer can be treated, but only if found early, and reminded everyone that it is a disease that may strike only women, but also affects men.
