Because bobblehead night was so last night, am I right?
There have been both strange and awesome promotional giveaways in the history of sports, often times one not including the other. And then there is Steven Lenhart Chia Pet night, which is both incredibly strange and equally, if not more, awesome.
First of all, give a raise to the marketing person who came up with the idea. If there was an awards show for great sports promotional giveaway items, that person would be the landslide winner for 2013. This tops even Steven Lenhart wig night, 2012 (above).
But more importantly, thank you for simply letting this happen, San Jose Earthquakes. When the first reports of Lenhart Chia Pet night hit Twitter last night, the reaction across the board was, "Please let this be a real thing," and only that.
The only problem with this promotion is, obviously, that only 2,500 Quakes fans will be able to wake up to a Steven Lenhart Chia Pet on their nightstand every morning for the rest of their lives.
