AMSTERDAM – Terrence Boyd hit from the spot to gain Rapid Vienna a 1-1 opening leg draw away to Europa League third qualifying-round foes Asteras Tripolis on Thursday.

Only two minutes after the Greeks broke the ice, Boyd was fouled in the area and calmly stepped up to tie the game. In addition to netting his third goal of the young campaign and fourth career strike in Europa League play, the US forward converted his first pro penalty.

Near the hour mark, Boyd had a great chance to win the game, only to see his header cleared off the line.

Around the tournament, Bryan Gerzicich went all 90 minutes in midfield as Hapoel Tel Aviv posted a 1-1 draw at Romanian hosts Pandurii Târgu Jiu, while Charlie Davies was an unused sub in Randers FC's 2-1 loss to visiting Rubin Kazan.

The deciding second legs for all three qualifying-round ties take place next Thursday.
