American Exports: Terrence Boyd bags two goals in a Rapid Vienna romp

AMSTERDAM – Rapid Vienna forward Terrence Boyd picked up where he left off last season by striking a pair of goals in their Austrian Bundesliga home opener, a 4-0 Saturday afternoon rout of 10-man Wiener Neustadt.

The US international nearly got the party started just seconds after kickoff, only to be robbed on a close range header by the away netminder. That scene was repeated six minutes later, but Boyd would make his first great impact in the game on the quarter hour, when Wiener Neustadt right back Dennis Mimm was shown straight red after tripping up the American as the last defender.

Boyd finally got on the scoresheet in the 53rd minute, powering home a bullet header. He then doubled his tally 13 minutes from time with another deft nod.

The victory tentatively placed Rapid at the top of the table, with most of their league rivals set to play on Saturday night.

Meanwhile, on Friday night, Viborg returnee Babajide Ogunbiyi came on with 13 minutes remaining in a 1-1 Danish Superliga share at FC Nordsjælland. The defender made a key block near the final whistle to preserve the point.

The promoted Greens stayed unbeaten through two games to rise to fifth place.
