GUADALAJARA, Mexico – There was a rare sighting of Jonathan Bornstein on Wednesday, when the left back – an integral part of the US squad at the last edition of the CONCACAF Gold Cup – came off the bench for Tigres UANL in their 1-0 loss to Cruz Azul Hidalgo in the Copa MX.
Bornstein played at left back for the Monterrey-based side for the last eight minutes of the game and pushed up high with his team chasing the equalizer, but wasn’t on the field long enough to make a major impact.
The former Chivas USA captain has been linked this summer to a move back to his former club, with playing time at Tigres under coach Ricardo Ferretti looking difficult once again.
On Tuesday, Club América loanee Ventura Alvarado debuted for Necaxa in a 2-1 loss to Chivas. The 20-year-old Phoenix native went 69 minutes in the Copa MX game, putting in an assured performance at the heart of the defense.
