AMSTERDAM – Sacha Kljestan became the first American to pick up a prize on the new season for the second year in a row after helping Anderlecht post a 1-0 Belgian Supercup victory over Genk on Sunday.
Playing in their friendly confines, the league champions got all the offense they would need with Massimo Bruno's strike on the edge of halftime. Kljestan picked up the "MLS assist" on the play by combining with forward Cyriac Gohi Bi to set up the young winger's winner.
Anderlecht, who went on to win the Jupiler League title after six of their previous nine Supercup triumphs, will open the new season when Lokeren pay a visit on July 28.
