American Exports: Alfredo Morales sent off in nightmare debut for Ingolstadt

Alfredo Morales of FC Ingolstadt

AMSTERDAM – It was an Ingolstadt debut to forget for Alfredo Morales on Friday, with the US international (above) seeing red near the end of a 2-1 home defeat to Erzgebirge Aue.

The American's troubles actually started in the 25th minute, when his weak back pass facilitated Jakub Sylvestr's icebreaker. Morales nearly atoned with an assist near the hour mark, only to have his cross nodded agonizingly wide by FCI striker Manuel Schäffler.

Ingolstadt's summer signing then was found guilty for tugging down Sylvestr in the area with 10 minutes remaining to offer up Aue's winning play. After Morales departed for his early shower, Sylvestr got revenge from the spot with his second goal of the night.

Elsewhere, 1960 Munich attacker Bobby Wood came on for the final eight minutes of a 1-0 opening night defeat at St. Pauli.
