Canadian Exports: Simeon Jackson makes great first impression with new club Eintracht Braunschweig

Canada's Simeon Jackson in action against Panama

As first impressions go, Simeon Jackson seems to have made a good one with Eintracht Braunschweig, a team newly promoted to the German Bundesliga.

Jackson left the Canadian Gold Cup squad late last week to sign with the club and seems to have settled quickly as he scored in Braunschweig's preseason 2-1 victory over Wolfsburg on Sunday.

In Sweden, goalkeeper Kenny Stamatopoulos' AIK is putting together a serious run at first place in the Allsvenskan with four wins and a draw in a five-game unbeaten run. Stamatopoulos was in goal on Sunday as AIK beat Syrianska FC 2-1. AIK are in third place and just three points back of first.

In Finland, the Europa League campaign for defender Roger Thompson's Mariehamn is over after they lost 2-0 on Thursday in the second leg of their qualifying-round game against Azerbaijan's Inter Baku. The teams had been tied on aggregate after the first leg and the second leg result gave Baku a 3-1 win.

The poor form continued for Mariehamn in Veikkausliiga play as Thompson played the full 90 minutes on Sunday in their 4-1 loss to Honka. Mariehamn are in eighth place in the league.

Forward Frank Jonke, meanwhile, had a weekend he's likely not soon to forget as he scored four times on Saturday for Jaro in their 7-1 thumping of Lahti. Coming into the game, Jonke had only one goal this season as the win moved Jaro up to fourth place.

Down a league in the Ykkonen, goalkeeper David Monsalve and Oulu were in tough on Tuesday against league leaders SJK. Monsalve gave up a goal to former D.C. United draft pick Justin Moose 10 minutes into the second half but Oulu scored late to make the final 1-1. Oulu sit in fifth place in the 10-team league.

In Singapore, Sherif El-Masri scored his second goal in as many games on Tuesday but his club, Young Lions, remain winless in 16 games this season as they dropped a 5-2 decision to Woodlands Wellington FC. Young Lions still have just two points this season and are 14 points behind the next closest team.

Just two spots above the bottom are forward Jerome Baker's Hougang United. Hougang have a four game losing streak after they lost 1-0 to Geylang International on Wednesday.

The best-placed Canadian in the S-League is Jordan Webb, who plays for Home United, but they also lost this week with a 4-1 result against Tampines Rovers on Sunday. Webb played the full 90 minutes and Home sit in fifth place.
