"Jose, first of all, welcome to Sunderland."
That's pretty much how Jozy Altidore's career with Sunderland began. Altidore, who made his big money move from AZ Alkmaar on Tuesday, did his first video interview since joining the English Premier League club — which you can see right here, on Sunderland's official website — and the first word spoken on the video is "Jose."
Altidore should have corrected the interviewer, who, by the way, presumably works for the club — and heck, might have even been the one to write the press release of Altidore's signing this week — on the spot and insisted the footage keep rolling so that the gaffe was pointed out to the masses. (Kind of like this.)
In the interview, Altidore went on to say all of the right things, cover most of the popular cliches about signing for a new club and seem genuinely excited about being back in the Premier League. The 23-year-old marked his preseason debut on Wednesday with a 45-minute shift and a goal in a 13-1 victory against a local select XI at the club's training camp.
