Alan Gordon's heroics for San Jose Earthquakes win him Week 18's MLS Player of the Week

Alan Gordon picked a pretty good time to score his first two goals of the season.


The veteran forward opened his 2013 scoring account with a pair of timely headers in a substitute appearance that helped give the San Jose Earthquakes a spectacular 3-2 comeback win over the LA Galaxy in front of more than 50,000 fans at Stanford Stadium on Saturday.


The heroic 26-minute performance also earned Gordon the MLS Player of the Week award for Week 18 as voted on by the North American Soccer Reporters, making him the first Quakes player to claim the honors this year. (See how the NASR voted here.)

Gordon ignited San Jose's latest imporable rally with a header four minutes after entering the match and then scored the decisive goal three minutes into stoppage time and a minute after Shea Salinas had equalized, nodding home a Sam Cronin cross to send Quakes supporters into a frenzy and give the the club all three points.
