American Exports: Rangers release Carlos Bocanegra from contract; is MLS return in the cards?

AMSTERDAM – Rangers have let US veteran Carlos Bocanegra out of the last year of his contract, the club announced Saturday, while also letting slip that he is in line for a move back to Major League Soccer.


According to the Scottish giants, the 34-year-old center back could turn up with hometown club Chivas USA. However, Bocanegra would be subject to the allocation process for returning US and Canadian internationals, with Toronto FC currently holding the top spot in the order.

Back in mid-May, Bocanegra rep Lyle Yorks told MLSsoccer.com that his client had interest from America, England and on the continent.


In all, the former Chicago Fire star worked 32 league contests for Rangers and nine in various cup competitions. Bocanegra spent the 2012-13 season on loan with Racing Santander of the Spanish second division.
