New Vancouver Whitecaps goalkeeper David Ousted

Following in the footsteps of Jimmy Nielsen, another Danish goalkeeper is joining MLS, as the Vancouver Whitecaps announced the signing of David Ousted on Thursday afternoon.

The 28-year-old comes to Vancouver after three seasons at Danish club Randers FC, where he was a teammate of former D.C. United forward Charlie Davies. Ousted will be eligible after the transfer window opens July 9. The Whitecaps' first match after that point will be July 14 against the Chicago Fire.

“David is a solid goalkeeper with a commanding presence at the back,” said Whitecaps FC head coach Martin Rennie in a statement. “He’s been an outstanding performer in Denmark over the past couple of seasons and I’m delighted to welcome him to the club.”

Ousted made a total of 103 appearances with Randers, helping them gain promotion to the Danish Superliga in 2011-12. He also helped guide Randers to third place in the SuperLiga for the 2012-13 campaign, bringing with it Europa League qualification next season.
