American Exports: Josh Gatt nets first of 2013 in Molde rout, Zarek Valentin picks up assist

Josh Gatt

AMSTERDAM – A trio of Americans helped their clubs advance to the quarterfinals of Norway's NM Cup on Wednesday, headlined by Josh Gatt scoring Molde FK's second in a 6-0 thrashing of guests Ranheim.

In the 17th minute, the winger wiggled into the area past two defenders, lost the ball and then regained it in time to poke home his first goal of 2013. Gatt's long shot forced the rebound that was put away for Molde's third only 10 minutes later and his cross led to a Ranheim own goal shortly after the break.

Molde, who signed US Under-18 netminder Ethan Horvath over the weekend, have now won three straight games across all competitions for the first time since last October.

Elsewhere, Bodø/Glimt loan defender Zarek Valentin redeemed himself after an early mistake as the second-flight leaders rallied for a 2-1 win over visiting Odd Grenland.

After receiving the "nutmeg" treatment as Odd started the scoring near the hour mark, Valentin crossed for Jim Johansen to equalize with a quarter-hour remaining and the underdogs claimed the winner shortly thereafter.

Finally, Mikkel Diskerud worked the final 15 minutes as nine-time champions Rosenborg moved on with a 2-1 home victory over Tromsø. The result extended their unbeaten streak to nine games.
