Chicago Fire confirm interest in ex-West Ham forward Carlton Cole, but no formal offers made

Carlton Cole celebrates interest but no offer from Chicago

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. – Reports out of England peg Chicago as a possible landing spot for recently released West Ham striker Carlton Cole, but Chicago Fire manager Frank Klopas said his club hasn't put a deal on the table just yet.

“We haven't made an offer to him, at least as far as I know,” Klopas said on Tuesday.

In recent weeks Klopas has talked about adding a striker, even with newly acquired forward Mike Magee scoring four goals in his first four games with the club.

After last week's US Open Cup win over Columbus, Klopas made it clear that Chicago still need to make additions, and Cole would seem to fit the bill of a player the club desires. The Englishman's name has come up in connection to MLS clubs throughout the season.

Klopas didn't deny that Cole is a player Chicago would be interested in, but the Fire coach wouldn't say whether his club had spoken with the player.

“He's a striker, yeah,” Klopas said when asked about the club's interest. “We're looking at options [up top], for sure. We talked about it early. But we haven't made an offer to Carlton Cole.”
