In a week featuring several high-scoring matches, it was the star of a scoreless stalemate who took top honors.
D.C. United's Bill Hamid made four key saves against the New England Revolution Saturday to give D.C. a 0-0 draw on the road. The result stopped the two-game losing streak for United, and gives the struggling side some hope heading into the coming weeks. It also gave Hamid the No. 1 spot in the Castrol Index.
Joining Hamid near the top was Philadelphia Union goalkeeper Zac MacMath (No. 3), who helped his team to a shutout in a commanding 3-0 win over the Columbus Crew in midweek.
Vancouver Whitecaps forward Camilo Sanvezzo snagged the second spot, after a two-goal performance in a dramatic 3-2 loss against the Seattle Sounders, while the player with the winning goal in that match, Lamar Neagle (No. 4), claimed a spot in the Top 5 himself. And rounding out the best of the best was Real Salt Lake's Olmes García (No. 5), who had an efficient shift against the LA Galaxy, coming off the bench at the hour mark and scoring a brace to give his team the win. Garcia also took MLS Player of the Week honors with his performance.
