American Exports: Herculez Gomez linked to Club Tijuana in Mexican press

Herculez Gomez

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – US international Herculez Gomez is being linked with a move back to MLS or to Club Tijuana, according to reports on Friday in Torreón’s local press.

El Siglo de Torreón newspaper is reporting that contract negotiations aren’t going well between Gomez and Santos Laguna, and that the club may be ready to offload the 31-year-old forward.

“Everything indicates that Mexican-American forward Herculez Gomez will not continue with the Guerreros,” reads the story. “His future could be MLS or even Xolos de Tijuana.”

The rumor of Gomez to Xolos was further fueled by a Tweet from Fox Sports commentator and journalist Gustavo Mendoza, who wrote on Friday that the former LA Galaxy, Rapids and Wizards forward is close to signing for Club Tijuana.

The information was disputed by MedioTiempo.com, which published a story on Friday that Gomez has one year left on his contract and that any change of team is “practically ruled out.”

Neither Santos nor Tijuana immediately responded to a request for comment from MLSsoccer.com.
