AMSTERDAM – Turkish outfit Bursaspor have begun an attempt to turn loan midfielder Maurice Edu's move into a full transfer, MLSsoccer.com has learned.

Multiple sources have indicated that the Green Crocodiles have opened talks with Stoke City over the US international. MLSsoccer.com has also learned that Bursaspor have a few rivals for Edu's services around Europe.

After appearing in just one English Premier League contest with Stoke over the first half of the season, the American has been a standout in most of his 13 matches in Turkey and a quick fan favorite at Bursa Atatürk Stadium since arriving in January. Bursaspor supporters have taken to holding up signs asking the club to sign both Edu and QPR loan defender Anton Ferdinand on a permanent basis.

Heading into Sunday's closing day tilt at Gençlerbirligi, Bursaspor are already assured of a fourth-place finish and the Europa League second qualifying-round berth that comes with it. It is unclear whether Edu, who has played only twice in the last seven games due to a groin nag, will suit up for the visitors.
