Colorado Rapids ink Jamaican defender Brenton Griffiths

Brenton Griffiths in action for the Colorado Rapids reserves

The Colorado Rapids, owners of one of the longest injury lists in MLS, took a step to bolster their roster options with the signing of rookie defender Brenton Griffiths on Tuesday.

Colorado's top selection in the 2013 Supplemental Draft (25th overall), Griffiths has been training with the Rapids all season and has started in three of the club's four Reserve League matches.

The 6-foot-3, 165-pound Jamaican was a standout at the University of South Florida over the past two NCAA seasons and has represented his country at the U-17 and U-20 levels.

“Brenton is a solid, young defender who is eager to learn,” said Rapids technical director Paul Bravo in a press release. “We’ve been encouraged by his effort and tenacity since he began practicing with us, and we’re pleased to add him to our roster.”
