Argentinos Juniors give green light for Matias Laba transfer to Toronto FC

Matias Laba, Argentina

According to news from Argentina, Toronto FC have finally succeeded in their quest to land Argentinos Juniors captain Matías Laba.

The Argentine club announced on its official site on Wednesday that club directors approved TFC's offer for the midfielder and that he was set to travel to Canada on Thursday. The article on ArgentinosJuniors.com.ar says that the transfer fee "will provide funds very beneficial to the club."

At the time of publication, Toronto FC had yet to respond to a request for comment from MLSsoccer.com.

Laba's name has been linked to Toronto FC since the beginning of April and manager Ryan Nelsen has fielded questions about him over recent weeks. He was also asked about the 21-year-old after Toronto's 2-0 win over Montreal in Wednesday's Amway Canadian Championship semifinal first leg.

"We are always looking to improve the squad and Matias Laba is an incredible player," Nelsen told media. "So if he joins the Toronto squad, I will be more than happy."

Toronto were reportedly chasing another Argentine player from Newell's Old Boys, Maximiliano Urruti, but Nelsen confirmed that deal was off on Tuesday.

"Urruti is not coming. That's finished now," Nelsen said. "With the other player, there should be an announcement soon."
