International Roundup: Blas Perez, Tim Cahill, Joel Lindpere score in busy day of World Cup qualifiers

Panama's Blas Perez and Honduras' Victor Bernardez collide

The United States' historic 0-0 draw at the Estadio Azteca wasn't the only thing going on in CONCACAF qualifying on Tuesday, with FC Dallas striker Blas Pérez netting in Panama's 2-0 home win over Honduras. D.C. United midfielder Marcos Sánchez, along with Pérez, went the full 90 for Panama, while Víctor Bernárdez (San Jose), Mario Martínez (Seattle), Boniek García (Houston) and Jerry Bengtson (New England) all featured for Honduras.

In the other CONCACAF game, Costa Rica scored a 2-0 win over visiting Jamaica. Álvaro Saborío was the lone MLS man in the Costa Rica lineup, though former Chivas USA defender Michael Umaña opened the scoring for the Ticos. Portland's Donovan Ricketts featured in goal for the Reggae Boyz while Houston's Jermaine Taylor went the full 90 in the center of defense.

In the Asian Football Confederation qualification stage, Tim Cahill of the New York Red Bulls helped Australia narrowly avoid an upset at the hands of Oman, scoring one and pacing his side to a last-gasp 2-2 draw in Sydney against the Middle Eastern minnows.

The Socceroos are tied with Oman in Group B of Asian qualifying with six points through five games, five points behind group leaders Japan and one behind Jordan. The top two teams in each group qualify for the World Cup, while the third-place teams meet in a two-game playoff for the right to play a winner-take-all playoff against a South American team.
