Save of the Week

Montreal Impact's Troy Perkins earns Save of the Week honors for sprawling block vs. Toronto FC

Troy Perkins, Montreal Impact (August 12, 2012)

Troy Perkins made life difficult on himself early in the second half of the Montreal Impact's 2-1 win over Toronto FC this past weekend, but he made up for it with a stop on Robert Earnshawn that won the Save of the Week honors for Week 3.

After clearing a ball in the direction of Toronto FC midfielder Terry Dunfield, the Impact goalkeeper came up big to deny Earnshaw's right-footed shot from just outside the penalty area in the 53rd minute. Perkins got low and to his left quickly, impressively knocking Earnshaw's would-be goal out for a corner kick.

Perkins' block claimed 42 percent of this week's vote while D.C. United netminder Bill Hamid came in second and third with 26 and 12 percent of the votes, respectively.
