MLS Fantasy: Is new Seattle Sounders striker Obafemi Martins a bargain?

Obafemi Martins smiles to camera

The much anticipated arrival of Obafemi Martins is officially here. Word on the signing of the former Levante striker broke just a couple of hours ago, with coach Sigi Schmid even saying that he could be on the game-day squad against Portland on Saturday (8 pm ET; NBCSN, LIVE chat on MLSsoccer.com).

Seattle fans have got to be thrilled and now you can be, too, as Martins has been added to MLS Fantasy Soccer: Manager. So go in and snatch him up before everyone else catches on, as based on his production and jaw-dropping ability to score goals, his $9.5m price tag is something few should be able to pass up.

Martins is known for doing a flip or two after scoring and he’ll likely be doing it quite frequently sooner rather than later. His record speaks for itself: 103 first team goals in 314 games across the biggest leagues in Europe, double-digit hauls in England and Italy, and currently the leading scorer for his La Liga side.

Of course, we don’t know how much playing time he’ll see this weekend. Eventually? Tons. For now, it could be a cameo, if at all.

Will he start or will he sub on at halftime? This is something no one has the answer to just yet. It’s doubtful that he sits on the sideline as an observer, but anything is possible at this point. Given the situation, 45 minutes seems feasible. Will you take the risk and start him this weekend now that he’s available? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
