American Exports: Maurice Edu helps Bursaspor to within striking distance of Champions League spot

Maurice Edu with Bursaspor

AMSTERDAM – A pair of US internationals took to the field under Friday night lights, with Maurice Edu providing another strong full shift in Bursaspor's 3-2 win over visiting Trabzonspor.

In addition to his sturdy defensive effort, the midfielder was key to the build-up on the decisive last two goals of the game. Edu earned the free kick that led to Bursaspor's 35th minute equalizer and his pocket pick started them off toward the winning goal shortly before halftime.

The victory moved Bursaspor up to fourth, just three points shy of both second place and a Champions League pass.

Over in Norway, Josh Gatt and two-time defending Tippeligaen champs Molde FK started the new season with a 2-1 defeat at Viking.

The winger worked an active 90 minutes, with one great saving tackle by the home defense stopping him from completing a mad dash into the area on both 26 and 70 minutes. The bad result may actually be a good omen, though, as Molde also dropped the road opener in each of the last two seasons before going on to win it all.
