CCL: Monterrey top Xelaju 4-2 on aggregate, will face LA-Herediano winner in semis

Monterrey celebrate their CCL goal vs. Xelaju

The LA Galaxy will know their potential CONCACAF Champions League semifinal opponent heading into Wednesday night's decisive quarterfinal clash with Herediano (10 pm ET, Fox Soccer), as two-time defending champions Monterrey booked their semifinal place with a 1-1 draw against Guatemalan side Xelajú on Tuesday evening.

Los Rayados, fielding a fairly strong lineup at home, were carrying a comfortable 3-1 lead from the away leg in Guatemala, though received a bit of a scare when the visitors struck early through defender Fredy Santiago. However, the Mexican outfit struck back through veteran midfielder Walter Ayoví and comfortably saw out the rest of the tie.

Monterrey are gunning for their third straight CCL title, having won the 2010-2011 edition after overcoming Real Salt Lake 3-2 on aggregate in the final, while they topped Herculez Gomez and Santos Laguna by the same aggregate scoreline in last year's edition.
