MLS Goal of the Week update: Portland Timbers' Diego Valeri nearing unassailable lead

MLS Goal of the Week: Week 1

MLS Goal of the Week: Week 1

Portland fans are either stuffing the ballot box or the consensus is clear: Diego Valeri deserves the very first Goal of the Week award of the 2013 regular season.

The Argentine's slick juggle-and-finish sent JELD-WEN Field into raptures on Sunday afternoon and it's having the same effect on GotW voters, earning more than half of the ballots cast so far. Impact midfielder Davy Arnaud's delightful chip against Seattle is running a distant second with just over 16 percent of the vote, followed by Álvaro Saborío's first of his two goals in Real Salt Lake's 2-0 victory over San Jose, which has polled 14 percent.

Crew playmaker Federico Higuaín's long-range blast against Chivas USA sits in fourth place at present, while Gershon Koffie's game-winner in Vancouver's win over Toronto brings up the rear.

There's still time to make your voice heard in this contest -- check out the voting information below:

2. Davy Arnaud (MTL) 16%
