Big Debate: Who would you rather have: Federico Higuain or Diego Valeri?

Federico Higuain, Columbus Crew, and Diego Valeri, Portland Timbers

In the opening weekend of MLS action, a couple of Argentine forwards stole the headlines. Federico Higuain sparked the Columbus Crew's 3-0 win over Chivas USA with a stunning long-ranger, and newcomer Diego Valeri led the Portland Timbers to a thrilling comeback draw with New York.

That got us here at MLSsoccer.com wondering: Who would you rather have on your club, Higuain or Valeri?

Diego Valeri
Federico Higuain

You'll never see Higuain pull off what Valeri did vs. NY. Set pieces are nice — and Valeri can do those, too — but the Timbers man is quicker and better at creating on the run at high speed. That makes him more unpredictable and tougher to defend. Say hello to the 2013 MLS MVP.

I get it, Valeri is the current Argentine playmaker du jour in MLS. But Higuain has already done the business to the tune of six goals and seven assists in 12 regular season starts. Production matters, and we still don't know if Valeri can keep this up. Plus, did you see Federico's strike against Chivas USA? Pure class. And he's the captain in Columbus, the one that makes the attack flow.
