American Exports: Jonathan Spector puts in hard shift for Birmingham City in draw

Birmingham City's Jonathan Spector

AMSTERDAM – Jonathan Spector brought his lunch pail to work on Tuesday, putting in a busy full shift as Birmingham City settled for a 1-1 draw with visiting Blackpool.

Working from central midfield, the US international saw a pair of shots buzz the frame wide and another deflected over. Spector also was forced to shake off a couple of hearty collisions, including a knock of heads with teammate Paul Caddis in the first half.

The Brums surrendered their halftime lead in the 74th minute, leaving them with but one win from their last nine games at St. Andrews. Despite the point gained, Birmingham slipped a spot to 18th place.

Elsewhere, a trio of Americans watched league action from their respective dugouts. Stuart Holden was an unused sub as Bolton topped regional rivals Blackburn 1-0, as were Conor Doyle in Derby County's 1-1 share at Cardiff and Zak Whitbread in Leicester City's 1-1 draw against Leeds United.
