American Exports: Kljestan, Anderlecht extend league lead

Sacha Kljestan with Anderlecht

AMSTERDAM – A trio of Americans took the field under Friday night lights across the pond, with Sacha Kljestan and Anderlecht tentatively building an 11-point Jupiler League lead by topping guests Charleroi 2-0.

The former Chivas USA man narrowly missed doubling the home lead mere seconds before Massimo Bruno applied the capper on 40 minutes. Kljestan came off with a quarter of an hour remaining as the Mauves ran their league unbeaten streak to 14 games and their bulletproof run across all competition to 15.

Over in Germany's second division, Bobby Wood worked a quiet first half on right wing as 1860 Munich dropped a 1-0 home decision to VfL Bochum. The eighth-place Lions have now won just once in their last seven home games.

Next door in the Dutch second flight, Charles Kazlauskas went the distance at right back as Helmond Sport climbed into second place with a 4-3 victory over visiting FC Emmen. The Lavans Stadion crew have won four times during a six-match unbeaten run that has them within two points of the top.
