AMSTERDAM – Most of the players returning from midweek US duty will hit the European road this weekend, including Tim Howard's annual visit to his former Old Trafford stomping grounds. All times listed in ET.
ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE
Clint Dempsey, Brad Friedel – Tottenham Hotspur vs. Newcastle (Saturday, 7:45 am on ESPN2/ESPN3.com)
Fresh from scoring in Honduras, Deuce will fill in up top for Spurs against a team he menaced for four goals last season with Fulham. Dempsey also hit five times in January. Friedel probably will not make his 23rd appearance against the Magpies, who have suffered three straight shutout losses at White Hart Lane. Fourth-place Tottenham will also wager a nine-game EPL unbeaten streak on Saturday.
Brad Guzan, Eric Lichaj – Aston Villa vs. West Ham United (Sunday, 8:30 am on Fox Soccer)
Winless in eight league games and carrying a four-game home losing streak, Guzan will try to pull on the Superman cape to get his side out of the danger zone with a win. He's never faced the Hammers, who have scored just once in their winless last five at Villa Park. It remains to be seen if Lichaj will see action.
Tim Howard – Everton at Manchester United (Sunday, 11 am on Fox Soccer)
The Toffees netminder (above) will see some old friends when the Red Devils make the short trip to Goodison. Howard has avoided defeat the last two meetings and has only lost once in five home showdowns with his former employers. Star man Marouane Fellaini should be back for Everton, but midfield opposite Michael Carrick is in doubt for United.
Jermaine Jones – Schalke at Bayern Munich (Saturday, 12:30 pm on GolTV)\
The US midfielder has had a rough time in seven career games against FC Hollywood, which have included five defeats and a yellow-red ejection in the lone win. Schalke, meanwhile, have scored just one goal in dropping the last four clashes at Bayern. It certainly won't help the Miners that Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has been added to a growing injury list.
Jozy Altidore – AZ Alkmaar at Feyenoord (Sunday, 8:30 am)
The Rotterdam crew are one of the few Eredivisie clubs yet to be hurt by Altidore, who will arrive at De Kuip one off the league scoring lead. While fourth-place Feyenoord have posted 16 wins in a 21-game home unbeaten run, they've also fallen three of the last four times AZ came to town. The Cheese Farmers remain without injured playmaker Maarten Martens, while Viktor Elm is suspended.
