American Exports: Dempsey scores, but Spurs out of Cup

Clint Dempsey

AMSTERDAM – Tottenham Hotspur ace Clint Dempsey continued his scoring roll on Sunday, but it was in a 2-1 losing cause at FA Cup fourth-round hosts Leeds United.

Having already missed narrowly wide on a pair of chances, the US attacker sliced the home lead in half with a well-taken header on 58 minutes. It was Dempsey's fifth goal in January, and his eighth of the campaign across all competitions.

Brad Friedel got the nod in goal for Spurs, making five saves. His 72nd-minute kick save on Ross McCormack kept the visitors in it, but a comeback was not in the cards.

Over in Serie A, Michael Bradley went the distance as AS Roma blew a pair of early leads before needing to rally late for a 3-3 draw at Bologna.

The midfielder was involved in the build-up for the goal that put his side up 2-1 midway through the first half, but they eventually required a 74th minute header from Panagiotis Tachtsidis to gain a split of the points.

Now winless in four league games, the Giallorossi slipped to eighth place.
