American Exports: Howard, EFC extend scoreless streak

Tim Howard smells something in the distance

AMSTERDAM – Tim Howard extended his longest Premier League shutout streak of the season to a 268 minutes as Everton held home side Southampton to a 0-0 stalemate on Monday night.

The US No. 1 notched four saves to earn consecutive clean sheets in league play for the first time since May. Howard's best work of the night came near halftime, when he denied Rickie Lambert and Jos Hooiveld scant moments apart.

The result kept Everton unbeaten in their last five EPL road contests. The Toffees remained in fifth place, but nudged to within three points of Clint Dempsey's Tottenham Hotspur, who sit in the fourth and final Champions League slot.
